Frequently asked questions
Do all Chinese buyers need FIRB approval to buy in Tasmania?
Not always. Australian citizens and most permanent residents do not need FIRB. Temporary visa holders, foreign nationals, and non-resident buyers usually do. We confirm your status in writing before you sign.
How long does FIRB approval take?
The statutory period is 30 days but the ATO can extend it. We build a matching FIRB condition into your contract so you are protected if approval runs late.
What happens if FIRB refuses my application?
If the contract contains a properly drafted FIRB condition, the contract is terminated and your deposit is refunded. Without that condition you risk losing your deposit and being sued.
Do Chinese temporary residents pay extra duty in Tasmania?
Foreign purchasers, including many temporary visa holders, pay a duty surcharge on residential property in Tasmania. We calculate the total duty in writing before you commit.
