Frequently asked questions

Can you review the contract before I sign at an auction?

Yes, and you should. Auction purchases have no cooling off period, so the contract review must happen before bidding. Send us the contract and section 10.7 certificate a few days out and we report back in writing.

How much extra duty do foreign buyers pay in NSW?

Foreign purchasers pay a surcharge purchaser duty on top of ordinary transfer duty, plus an annual surcharge land tax. Rates change with each state budget, so we calculate your exact figure on the current rate before exchange rather than quoting a number from memory.

Do I need to attend your office in person?

Not necessarily. Identity verification, signing and PEXA settlement can be completed remotely, and interstate or overseas clients settle Sydney property with us regularly. If you prefer to sit down and go through the contract in person, our Sydney CBD office takes appointments.

What does a Sydney conveyance cost?

We confirm the scope and fee in writing before starting, covering our professional fee and the usual disbursements such as searches and settlement platform charges. Off the plan, commercial and development matters are quoted separately because the work involved differs.

Can you explain the contract to my parents in Mandarin?

Yes. With your written consent we speak directly with family members in Mandarin or Cantonese and provide bilingual summaries of the key clauses and deadlines.
